Last night, this sponsored post showed up on my Instagram feed. Excited at a chance to have my opinions heard by our government, I filled it in. I was significantly disappointed to see that neither the climate change nor biodiversity crises were mentioned in the answer choices. Although I am very grateful to live and participate in a democracy, the survey was a worrying signal from our new government about how major ecological threats will be prioritized. The extent of their “environmentally oriented” platform was limited to one answer option that did not mention climate or biodiversity (bolded below). I place quotation marks around “environmentally oriented” to emphasize that climate and biodiversity issues are just as significant social and economic threats as they are ecological.

In 2025, we are at a crucial point, a historical point, an unprecedented point. We cannot afford another government that under prioritizes climate change mitigation and biodiversity protection. We have already suffered extreme, irreversible ecological damage both nationally and internationally. To make your voice heard, fill out the survey here and emphasize these gaps within your question four response.
